Let’s face it, you need to be making more sales in your business.

You’ve tried different forms of advertising and media but you need something a bit more. Something that can not only connect with your target audience, but keep them engaged over time. Something to bring them slowly but surely to working with you.

You need to build a list.

Why is list building important?

Because it is something that belongs to you and, should social media decide to close its doors forever, you would have created a solid platform of potential clients that you can continue to engage over time.

But how do you even begin creating such a list? Well sit back, and let me tell you

You need to create a freemium campaign – like premium but free!! Simply put, you offer potential clients something for free in exchange for their name and contact information. Who doesn’t like to get stuff for free?

Ask yourself:

  • What does my ideal customer like?
  • What is the one thing that people constantly ask me for?
  • What is the first thing people ask for when I tell them what I do

The answers to these questions can assist you with the content you should provide. For example, the first thing people ask me when I introduce myself and my business is social media. When probing further, I understand that many entrepreneurs and business owners feel overwhelmed and, they do not have the time to really engage the way they feel they should, so I created a download which goes through easy tips on how to master the social media platforms. Click here to check it out.

This brings me to my second point which is to identify how your target would prefer to consume the material. There are so many ways you can offer valuable information to your customers. Some include:

  1. Worksheets: This allows them to download the information and reflect upon their answers.
  2. Video/Audio series: This can allow you to connect with them virtually as they can see and interact with you.
  3. Ebooks: Like worksheets, they can download the information but this literally gives them all the information they need. There is no need to ‘figure things out’
  4. Contests/Challenges: This puts them into action where they can be rewarded for their efforts.

Note that, you would need an auto responder to house all emails of persons who will be signing up. Mail Chimp, Aweber and Ontraport are just a few of the email responders out there that can help you manage your lists.

Lastly, figure out how you will drive traffic to your freemium campaign. You will need to promote it where your ideal target will see it and take advantage of it. This can be via social media, your blog or even word of mouth where you let persons know to head over to your website or where ever your offer is. So there it is in a nutshell. If you found value in this please comment below and share with your colleagues.
