Today, I want to share a story that’s close to my heart, a story that speaks to resilience, passion, and determination.
Many of you know me as Carla Williams Johnson, the founder of Carli Communications, an award-winning public relations company. You might know me as a mum, lover of karaoke and a fierce advocate for recognition of women and Caribbean CEO’s on the international market.
But let me take you back to where it all began. You see, I was born in Trinidad and Tobago, a place where opportunities can sometimes feel limited, especially if you don’t fit the conventional mold. I was told I was the “wrong” gender, the “wrong” skin color, and that I was born in the “wrong” place to pursue a career as a world-class publicist. Yet, I refused to let these labels define me.
I was faced with a choice. Should I leave my homeland in search of greener pastures, where the odds might seem more favorable? It was a tough decision, but I decided to stay right here, in Trinidad and Tobago, and make my mark in the world of PR.
And you know what? It wasn’t easy. I faced challenges, doubts, and hurdles along the way. But I believed in the power of purpose, the power of determination, and the power of my dreams.
Fast forward to today, and Carli Communications has not only made a name for itself in Trinidad and Tobago but has been recognized on the international stage. We’ve received acclaimed awards, and our work has extended beyond borders.
Why do I share this story? It’s because I believe in the idea of “blooming where you’re planted.” Sometimes, your greatest success can be achieved right from where you stand. You don’t need to conform to someone else’s idea of where you should be or what you should look like.
So, as we gathered at the “Empowering Through Purpose-Driven Platforms – 2nd Annual Carli Connect Masterclass,” I was reminded of the importance of embracing your roots, your uniqueness, and your dreams.
Thank you, Nalini Akal, for reminding us that success often begins with a choice to bloom right where we are planted.
Let’s keep blooming together, embracing our purpose, and proving that anything is possible, no matter where you come from.
Stay inspired, stay purpose-driven.
