One single image released a few days ago turned the world on its head.  February 2023 cannot come fast enough for fans who are literally dying to see Ms. Fenty take the Super bowl stage. Knowing my Bajan beauty, she will not disappoint.

I have to say, she is an inspiration to me and should be for all West Indian women and women of color. She’s hard working (billionaire status mind you……) and she juggles her music, her beauty empire and her duties as a new mom…….all while being herself and ‘keeping it real’

As we say in Trinidad, Rihanna ‘doh business’ and you’ve got to love her ‘take me as I am, don’t come ‘round me with no nonsense’ attitude. We can definitely learn a lot from Riri on how to show up

1: Confidence is everything

If you want to be successful, you have to be true to yourself and show up unapologetically.  Look at Rihanna’s style, the way she speaks and carries herself. She is who she is and that’s why the world loves her. Stop trying so hard to be perfect and polished and just be you. I know there will be times when your ‘fab-o-meter’ might be broken and you feel down in the dumps but this is when you have to dig deep and ‘fake it till you make it’. I always say no one needs to know that behind that smile you’re literally screaming on the inside. Keep exuding confidence and before long everyone wouldn’t just love you, they’d love to be you!!

2: Don’t let anyone ‘dictate your pace’

It’s a saying we have here that means don’t let anyone tell you what to do, what to say or how to act. I’ve seen Rihanna shut seasoned reporters up because they dared to be all up in her business. Girl, just do what you need to do to be happy and successful. Too often we attempt to try to please everyone else and we end up feeling stressed out, burnt out and unfulfilled. We can’t have that!!!  Focus on the places and spaces where you need to be and not where others think you should be.

3: Stay in ‘yuh lane’ and ‘mind yuh business’

Another saying which translates into stop watching or copying what others do. Listen, no one can do you better than you!!! So why compare? Why put yourself through that mental torture? Don’t do that to yourself hun……..you focus on what you need to do and where you need to be to build your empire. Before long, you’ll be the one others will try to copy.

4: Keep on moving

Sometimes our focus goes elsewhere because in life things happen or seasons change you’ve got to get right back up. When was the last time Riri launched a single? But my girl is still doing it and making that money!!! You can do the same. Keep finding ways to show up and connect with your people. Don’t let your mind trick you into thinking that because you’ve gone on a small hiatus that you have to ‘start over’.  Just keep going and keep doing you.

5: Lead by example

You’re a Queen hun so start acting the part. Make the tough decisions and forge a path for other women to follow. Generations will thank you.
