In 2018 I made a promise to myself to read more. I noticed at the time, many experts were suggesting reading a book a week, but quite frankly…….who has the time???

Back then I was very pregnant and figured that between mommy duties and my current workload that one book a month was a good start….…..’twelve books a year? Yeah, I can do that!’

Well, while many others ‘abandon ship’ I kept at it and I have to tell you I am soooooo happy I did. Three years later, I’m still pushing ‘a chapter a day, keeps the negativity away’…..although, to be honest I don’t always have the time to read a chapter a day buuttt I have read more books in the last 36 months than I have in my entire life so that says something.

With tomorrow being Author’s Day (Yea there is literally a day for everything), I thought I’d share with you the best books I’ve read thus far…….maybe you can add them to your list

Essentialism by Greg McKeown
Hands down the best book….ever….in life!!!
Every CEO and entrepreneur needs to read this book because it’s a life saver to anyone who finds that they’re just too busy.

My favorite line: What if we stopped celebrating busy as a matter of importance?
The author walks us through his four step framework on focusing only on what’s important to achieve success. I have to say that so many of us get caught up in the trap of being busy and as business owners, we have to remember, it’s not about getting more done but getting more of the RIGHT things done (….and maybe asking for help when we need to).
Truly a great book and it has helped me become much more focused and productive.

This is the book that got me in Forbes for crying out loud….don’t believe me? Check it out here!

The Tipping Point and Outliers both by Malcolm Gladwell
I put these two together because they really go hand in hand. They were so informative and really gave a unique perspective on how things can really move from the ordinary to the extraordinary when all the right components are in place. They also reveal who you are as a business person and who you need to invest in to make your brand successful. Malcolm’s unique writing style will have you glued to every page. You should definitely get both!!
Side note: These books also got me featured on a list with other marketing pros. Imagine…reading a great book can help you get featured globally….who knew?

We Should All Be Millionaires by Rachel Rodgers
I loved this book….it’s pretty similar to Everything is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo but I do love the rawness Rachel brings to the things black women face in business. She talks about the ‘Broke Ass Decisions’ that keep us ladies from reaching our true potential and the powers that be designed to ‘keep us in place’
The book is literally a road map with a step by step guide to help us avoid the traps set for us as we move powerfully towards millionaire status.
Happy to say that I’ve been making some ‘Million Dollar Decisions’ of late (her term, not mine) and I’m pretty sure you will be too after reading this book.

Becoming by Michelle Obama
Looking for inspiration? Get this book, it’s proof that sharing your story matters.
No matter how small, everything that we’ve been through, the lessons we’ve been taught, the people we meet, the things we see and experience shape who we are today and who we’ll become.

Atomic Habits by James Clear
Small changes can make a huge difference and this book literally gives you the framework to build good habits and break the bad ones. If you’re like me and you know what you SHOULD be doing but don’t, then pick this book up and read it again…..and again…..and again.

Start With Why by Simon Sinek
You’re gonna to be pissed at Simon at first, basically because he’s going to tell you that you’ve been doing business wrong this entire time. Don’t fret, when you read this book you’ll be able to turn things around and see the growth that has been eluding you all this time…….I promise

There you have them, my top picks so far. I still have a lot more reading to do…..I’m a bit of a ‘book-junkie’ now…….aaannddd I ‘ve got a huge surprise for you. I, your friendly neighbourhood marketer and PR princess, has been featured in a book.
YES!!!! I only recently got word from the author and it’s due to launch mid November and I’m so excited about it. Imagine me, in a book, designed to help other entrepreneurs build their brand.

From reading books, to getting featured about books to now being in a book……wow!!
I’ll be sure to drop the details when they are available but in the meantime, tell me which of the books listed are you most excited to read? I’d love to hear……or maybe let me know some of your favorite books so I can add them to my list. Suggestions welcomed!
