If you don’t then boooyyyyy are you missing out!!!

He’s freakin’ awesome!!! His no nonsense, in your face approach would have sitting up cheering. He’s not about pussyfooting around what it really takes to build a business and he’s not afraid throw in a couple curse words here and there to prove his point.

Gary Vee is one of the most well known and most followed entrepreneurs out there because he understands what it takes. He quite literally says what’s on his mind and he doesn’t really hold back.

I don’t say this often….but I freakin love the guy!!!

For those who know………you must admit that after listening to him, you instantly feel motivated to move into action……..like how can you not….right?

Well, not to toot my own horn or anything but……’Toot!! Toot!!’

I am so proud to say that I actually have something in common with this genius…..he and I were featured together on the same platform!!

I’ll wait for you to stop gasping!!!

Well we weren’t featured together, buuuutttttttt the same people who interviewed him, interviewed me and I feel like something special.

Imagine me, in the same limelight as Mr Vaynerchuk himself…..a thought leader who isn’t afraid to curse (truly a man after my own heart).

But seriously guys, the people at IdeaMensch contacted me and I was super stoked to be a part of it. What I really loved about it was when we dug deep into the one strategy that helped me grow my business. It all came down to one word: “Observation”.

I think all business owners should take a step back and observe from time to time. You know basically study what’s happening and see how it can apply to brand building.

Now by no means am I saying to sit and do nothing but watch, but what I am saying a bit of market research can go a long way and save you some time, money, heartache, frustration, stress and everything else negative that you can think about.

So here are some of the things you can look at and how they can be applied to your business.

 

OBSERVE TRENDS:

This might be the simplest to look at because you’re basically looking at how your target may be evolving over time. Some things can be seen quite clearly such as seasonal shopping (Christmas vs let’s say Back to School time)  but look deeper……what are some of the emerging trends? Let me give you a local example; here in the lovely Trinidad & Tobago it was only in the last few years that suppliers of the East Indian delicacy roti have positioned their product as a ‘must have’ for the East Indian holidays of Arrival Day and Divali. So much so that people order weeks in advance to ensure they get it on the holiday. My point is a good marketer sees opportunities when they arise and position their products or services to suit.

 

OBSERVE YOUR POTENTIAL CLIENTS:

Think about who they are and where they are. If they’re on social media, which types of posts do they gravitate to or what type of content do they best engage with? This will tell you what to produce more of and what they will be willing to purchase. Also observe them, in what I like to call, their natural habitat. Where do they congregate during their down time might tell you where you need to show up to get in front of their faces. Do they watch television to relax or listen to the radio on their way to work? If so what stations and what type of information do they want? This will tell you where you need to place your advertising so you don’t waste your financial resources.

 

OBSERVE YOUR COMPETITION:  

Yep, I’m not joking. Your competition can be your best friend! I am not saying to copy what they’re doing, but you can make it work in your favor.

I logically observe what others do, especially the thought leaders in my industry. I study their strategies, how they interact with their customers and their execution techniques to understand why people purchase
I ask myself:
Can I utilize what they’re doing in my business?
Are they leaving gaps in their service that I can now capitalize on?
Can I improve a product or service I already have or do I create something new?
Maybe collaboration in the future if we share the same clients?

I pay attention to what they’re doing and use that information to help me grow my business…….and you can to.
