For the past few weeks I have been preaching to anyone who would listen that now, more than ever, it’s time to step up and stand out in business. More than a catchy phrase, I really believe that this is THE time of the entrepreneur.  Not to mention that I’ve been seeing this phrase used by others as well but I guess great minds think alike.

Every day I see more and more people putting themselves out there and, I am so proud of each and every one of them, but, I also notice a few are struggling. Some of the main reasons I’ve come across are:

  • They get in what I call ‘stuck in strategy’, where they spend all their time learning and not enough time doing. Quick Solution: Get out there, do what you need to and learn from it. Experience is the best teacher.
  • They have not learned how to handle failure, so when things don’t go as expected, they focus more on the failure than the lesson. Quick Solution: Keep moving forward and know want NOT to do again in the future.
  • They compare themselves to others which can play on their self esteem and self confidence. Quick Solution: You are right where you need to be. Don’t worry about what they’re doing; focus on what YOU need to do to build yourself.

If you fall into any of these, let me tell you, you’re not alone and there as so many others that go through all the different emotional phases of entrepreneurship. Notice I said ‘phases’ because, that’s all it is. It happens to the best of us over time but idea is to not let it get us down and to stay focused on our goals.

Never mind the fact that sometimes you think the world is passing you by, you are an entrepreneur and trust me, and you’re a super strong human being just being on this journey. It’s time you step into your leadership role and move forward with confidence. Let me share with you three ways to stand in your power.

NUMBER 1: Invest in yourself

Leaders invest in themselves because they understand that free can only take them so far. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are some fantastic online courses out there that can truly help you build your business, but, let’s face it, if you really want to take your brand to a higher level you NEED to invest. This doesn’t have to be a massive amount; no one is saying you need to over extend yourself, but maybe you can look at doing an inexpensive course where you maximum value at minimum cost such as Crushing it with Carli Masterclass Series or some other similar online program. You can then put the knowledge you’ve gained into practical use. In addition to intellectual investment, human investment is important as well. Who are the people you need to grow your brand? What things can you outsource because it’s taking up too much of your time or it’s something you just cannot do? I can tell you, technology is not my thing; I’m more of a creative person so I outsourced an IT and a Brand Specialist to assist with setting up my landing pages, etc.  Think about what professionals you can bring into your circle to help build your brand. Again……if cash flow is an issue, then by all means have a conversation with the expert and work out a contra agreement or some sort of payment plan to get you moving.

NUMBER 2: Speak up

This one might be a bit difficult for a few people. Just the other day I had to get a dose of wisdom from my coach and mentor Jennifer Kem when she said “If people can’t handle you, then they’re not your people”.  Too often we mute ourselves for fear of offending or we think people may not like us. As a leader, you need to keep doing what you know and be consistent with it. You are a genius and no one knows what you do, better than you. In whatever industry you may fall into, share your wealth of knowledge with as many people as possible. Eventually the people who are for you will find you, stick by you, understand and appreciate you…….and most of all……pay you.

NUMBER 3: Stop hiding

This one might even be harder for some, but as a leader you need to show up where you’re needed to share your gifts and talents to help as many people as possible. As difficult as it may be, a leader never shies away from the people who need them; instead they embrace their power and use it for good. Think of yourself as a superhero, here to save the day of the people who need you.  You have been blessed with this spectacular gift to help people who are suffering; it’s up to you to get out of hiding and stand in your own power.
